What is Project Cold?

The Greater Boston Food Bank’s Cold Storage Expansion project is the largest investment in GBFB’s facility since it was built 15 years ago.

This initiative, made possible by state and philanthropic funds, is part of a multi-pronged effort to provide more perishable items, including fresh fruits and vegetables, to the 1 in 3 people who continue to struggle with food insecurity in our region.

By enhancing our cold storage capacity, we will be better able to serve the 600 local food distributions in Eastern Massachusetts that rely on GBFB for the food they provide to our most vulnerable neighbors.

Project Highlights:
 - 400 New Pallet Positions for Cold Storage
 - 8-10 Million Additional Pounds of Perishable Food per Year
 - New Industrial Freight Elevator
 - High Speed Roll-up Doors
 - Upgraded Volunteer Area
 - Additional Receiving Space
 - Energy Efficient Project Aligns with LEED Silver Credit
